Phase 2The Diagnosis• PAIN: is aching, burning, deep; may have increased skin sensitivity• CONTINUOUS PAIN: allodynia (pain from something which normally does not cause pain) or hyperalgesia (increased sensitivity to pain), persistent pain of unexplained origin (even with rest)• SWELLING: increased or decreased• SKIN COLOUR: abnormal colour changes• SKIN-TEMPERATURE: temperature changes (> or <1° C)• LIMITED AROM: active range of motion is limited• HAIR, NAIL CHANGES: increased or decreased growth• SWEATING: abnormal• MOVEMENT: tremor, weakness, muscle atrophyRSD/CRPS is a painful neurological disease whose hallmark is “pain out of proportion to the injury” (sprain, fracture); unexplained, persistent pain. Signs and symptoms may include:RSD/CRPS can develop afer fracture, surgery, sof tissue injury or from minor trauma e.g. sprain.Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion and is considered when no other disease explains the quality/amount of pain; signs and symptoms.Early diagnosis brings the best prognosis!
